THE STARTER REPORTED: a) GEORGE HANDEL (C Maujean) and STREWN SKY (G Lerena) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Jockey C Maujean reported that GEORGE HANDEL took no interest in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. b) MASTER ARIANO was selected for the taking of specimens for TCO2 testing. The first specimen analysed at 15H24 revealed a level of over 35 TCO2 mmol/L. Trainer A P Peter was advised that, in terms of the Procedure for Total Carbon Dioxide (TCO2) analysis on Raceday, a second blood specimen would be collected. Trainer A P Peter was informed that the second blood specimen, analysed at 15H51 had revealed a level above the international threshold of 36 mmol/L and that consequently MASTER ARIANO was scratched from this race in terms of the provisions of Rules 72.1.23; 4.2.14 and 4.2.18. (Withdrawn at 15H56, 5/1 in the betting). c) THE BRIEF (S Khumalo), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer R R Sage advised (MduP).
