THE STARTER REPORTED: a) JASPERO (C Zackey) and SILVER HUNT (K Minnie) had to be re-saddled at the start, causing a delay. Thereafter, JASPERO (C Zackey) and SILVER HUNT (K Minnie) jumped slow, losing one length. b) GUERRA (X Ndlovu) was stubborn loading. c) TIMBAVATI RIVER (C Maujean) jumped slow, losing one length. d) SPIN DOCTOR (R Danielson) stumbled leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) TREASURE HUNT was selected for the taking of specimens for TCO2. testing. The first specimen revealed a level of over 35 TCO2. mmol/L. Trainer JP Nel was advised that, in terms of the Procedure for Total Carbon Dioxide (TCO2) analysis on Raceday, a second blood specimen would be collected. Trainer JP Nel was informed that the second blood specimen had revealed a level above the international threshold of 36 mmol/L and that consequently TREASURE HUNT was scratched from this race in terms of the provisions of Rules 72.1.23; 4.2.14 and 4.2.18. (Withdrawn at 13h21, 25/1 in the betting). TREASURE HUNT was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer JP Nel was advised (Dr M Bawden) b) Due to the delay in the previous race, the Stewards instructed the Jockeys to proceed directly to the start and not to parade in front of the grandstand. c) Leaving the 1000m KINGDOM OF HEAVEN (S Khumalo), which proved difficult to settle in the early stages, raced onto the heels of TIMBAVATI RIVER (C Maujean) and had to be steadied. Thereafter, KINGDOM OF HEAVEN (S Khumalo) was continually held up for a clear run until the 200m. d) At the 300m PEDRO (Y Ramzan) had to be steadied when unable to secure a clear run between the inside running rail and SCAMPTON (D Daniels), which rolled in marginally. Thereafter, PEDRO (Y Ramzan) was held up behind SCAMPTON (D Daniels) until the 150m and then was not persevered with. Jockey Y Ramzan appeared before the Board and was advised that while the Stewards accepted that his mount had been inconvenienced between the 300m and the 150m, he still had an obligation to ride his mounts, at least hands and heels, to the finish. e) Jockeys C Zackey and M van Rensburg, the riders of JASPERO and THE CHARIOTEER respectively, reported that they felt something amiss with these geldings. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. f) TIMBAVATI RIVER, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer TJ Laing was advised.
