THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MAGNUM FIRE (KA Brewer), GREAT AFFAIR (C Maujean) and MO FLOW (K Minnie) jumped slow, losing one length. b) PAINITE (R Danielson) jumped outwards and made contact with PUERTO PLATA (ARG) (R Fourie) leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) MAGICAL MIDLANDS was selected for the taking of specimens for TCO2. testing. The first specimen revealed a level of over 35 TCO2. mmol/L. Trainer K Mitchley was advised that, in terms of the Procedure for Total Carbon Dioxide (TCO2) analysis on Raceday, a second blood specimen would be collected. Trainer K Mitchley was informed that the second blood specimen had revealed a level above the international threshold of 36 mmol/L and that consequently MAGICAL MIDLANDS was scratched from this race in terms of the provisions of Rules 72.1.23; 4.2.14 and 4.2.18. (Withdrawn at 13h57, 7/1 in the betting). MAGICAL MIDLANDS was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Mitchley was advised (Dr M Bawden) b) At the 700m MO FLOW (K Minnie) rolled out and made contact with MAGNUM FIRE (KA Brewer), which in turn made contact with THEN IN FOCUS (C Habib). c) ADIOS AMIGOS (P Mxoli) was hanging in from the 300m. d) PUERTO PLATA (ARG) (R Fourie) was hanging in from the 200m. e) Jockey M van Rensburg reported that he felt something amiss with LIGHT WITHOUT, which raced wide without cover in the early stages, and he did not persevere with his riding from the 300m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. f) JUAN CARLOS, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer TJ Laing was advised.
