THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) HAPPY HOLLY (C Habib) was stubborn loading.
b) BE MERRY (JP van der Merwe), EAT PREY LOVE (K Minnie) and SUCHALIFE (C Maujean) were slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) At the 300m BE MERRY (JP van der Merwe) was momentarily unbalanced when brushed inwards by CAN'T SAY NO (X Ndlovu), which shifted in and was immediately straightened.
b) At the 250m HAPPY HOLLY (C Habib) was carried in marginally by SPLICETHEMAINBRACE (R Fourie), which was hanging in, rolled in and was immediately straightened. Thereafter, in the concluding stages HAPPY HOLLY (C Habib) and SPLICETHEMAINBRACE (R Fourie) raced in close proximity. Jockey C Habib and Trainer GD Smith called for a race review which was followed by Trainer GD Smith, the trainer of the 2nd placed horse HAPPY HOLLY (C Habib) lodging an objection against the 1st placed horse SPLICETHEMAINBRACE (R Fourie) on the grounds of intimidation from the 400m and interference at the 250m. The Objection Board, after giving due regard to the evidence put forward, reviewing the patrol films and giving consideration of the margin of 0.10 of a length between the two horses concerned at the finish, was satisfied that HAPPY HOLLY (C Habib) would not have finished ahead of SPLICETHEMAINBRACE (R Fourie) had this incident not occurred and therefore overruled the Objection. Trainer GD Smith's deposit was refunded.
c) Jockey K Minnie reported that EAT PREY LOVE did not stride out freely in running and he did not persevere with his riding in the latter stages. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
d) SPLICETHEMAINBRACE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer A Mtengwana, acting on behalf of Trainer AC Greeff, was advised. (LM)
