THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) WALT WHITMAN (R Fourie) was stubborn loading.
b) DEPUTY TARGARYEN (M van Rensburg) was stubborn loading, jumped slow, losing two lengths and thereafter was slow into stride.
c) UNION ROSE (K Steyn) was stubborn loading and thereafter was slow into stride.
d) MISTER SPEAKER (S Khumalo) was slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) Approaching the 500m COWBOY'S DON'T CRY went amiss and was immediately eased out of the race by Jockey L Mxothwa. WALT WHITMAN (R Fourie), which was following, had to be steadied and directed outwards and, as a consequence, raced very wide on the latter part of the turn. After this incident, Jockey R Fourie reported that WALT WHITMAN felt uncomfortable in its action and did not respond to his riding. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt. COWBOY'S DON'T CRY (L Mxothwa) was attended to on course by the Veterinary Surgeon.
b) In view of the debut performance of DEPUTY TARGARYEN (M van Rensburg) which, after being slow to begin trailed the field throughout, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
c) A BIT CHILLY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer GD Smith was advised. (LM)
d) MISTER SPEAKER, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Mitchley was advised. (LM)
