The start of this Race was delayed due to YOU BRING ME JOY (K Matsunyane) having the left front shoe replaced by the course farrier at the start. Examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race.
THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) FORWARD MOTION (G Lerena) and SIBERIAN WINTER (R A Venniker) were stubborn to load.
b) FORWARD MOTION (G Lerena), DARK WINTER (S Veale) and WE WILL ROCK YOU (M Yeni) lost 1 length.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED :
a) WE WILL ROCK YOU (M Yeni) jumped awkwardly in leaving the starting stalls, bumping CARE FORGOT (S Khumalo) which in turn bumped SCARS OF WAR (C Habib).
b) SAFE AND SOUND (*K J Lihaba) was hanging in from the 300m.
c) Approaching the 150m SCARS OF WAR (C Habib) was carried in by VARVARA (C Zackey), which rolled in.
d) In view of the performance of YOU BRING ME JOY (K Matsunyane) (10.50 lengths, 7/1 in the betting), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
e) KHETHIWE'S DESTINY was selected for the taking of specimens for TCO2. testing. The first specimen analysed at 12h18 revealed a level of over 35 TCO2. mmol/L. Trainer M F De Kock was advised that, in terms of the Procedure for Total Carbon Dioxide (TCO2) analysis on Raceday, a second blood specimen would be collected. Trainer M F De Kock was informed that the second blood specimen, analysed at 12h31 had revealed a level above the international threshold of 36 mmol/L and that consequently KHETHIWE'S DESTINY was scratched from this race in terms of the provisions of Rules 72.1.23; 4.2.14 and 4.2.18. (Withdrawn at 12h36, 9/1 in the betting).
f) WHISTLE THE TUNE (R Fourie), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer G S Kotzen advised (SP).
