THE STARTER REPORTED: a) A fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) Shortly after the start OFF LIMITS (C Maujean) was carried in marginally by LADY OF POWER (M Yeni) which jumped inwards. As a consequence RED MAPLE (C Zackey) and OFF LIMITS (C Maujean) came together and brushed. b) SAARTJIE (C Orffer) shifted out away from the crop between the 350m and the 150m. c) VIRGINIA SWEET (C Habib) was hanging out from the 300m. d) Jockey D De Gouveia reported that he felt something amiss in the running with SEA GODDESS. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. e) RED MAPLE (C Zackey), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer S G Tarry advised (SP). Trainer S Tarry was questioned regarding the improved performance of RED MAPLE, the winner, as compared to this filly's previous recent runs. He attributed the improvement shown in today's race by running this filly back over her preferred shorter distance. Trainer Tarry has undertaken to race RED MAPLE over a similar distance where possible in future. The Board noted this explanation, and the future performances of RED MAPLE will be monitored.
