THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) ONE STRIPE was selected for the taking of specimens for TCO2 testing. The first specimen revealed a level of over 35 TCO2. mmol/L. Trainer VH Marshall was advised that, in terms of the Procedure for Total Carbon Dioxide (TCO2) analysis on Raceday, a second blood specimen would be collected. Trainer VH Marshall was informed that the second blood specimen had revealed a level above the international threshold of 36 mmol/L and that consequently ONE STRIPE was scratched from this race in terms of the provisions of Rules 72.1.23; 4.2.14 and 4.2.18. (Withdrawn at 14h49, 46/100 in the betting). ONE STRIPE was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer VH Marshall was advised (Dr E Reynders). b) After leaving the parade ring correctly shod, MAURITIUS KESTREL lifted its right front shoe on the way to the start which had to be refitted, causing a delay. c) Leaving the 700m MAURITIUS KESTREL (L Mxothwa) was carried out marginally by RAMA FORCESA (C Zackey), which took an awkward stride away from the inside running rail. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine RAMA FORCESA. d) At the 450m TALK TO THE MASTER (G van Niekerk), which was ridden forward, had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the outside of SURGE OF POWER (C Orffer) and inside the heels of GNARLY (G Wright). Thereafter, TALK TO THE MASTER (G van Niekerk) was directed outwards and into clear running. e) EIGHT ON EIGHTEEN, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
