THE STARTER REPORTED: a) NAVY STRENGTH (JP van der Merwe) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) BLUE BAY was selected for the taking of specimens for TCO2. testing. The first specimen revealed a level of over 35 TCO2. mmol/L. Assistant Trainer B Donnelly, acting on behalf of Trainer B Crawford, was advised that, in terms of the Procedure for Total Carbon Dioxide (TCO2) analysis on Raceday, a second blood specimen would be collected. Assistant Trainer B Donnelly, acting on behalf of Trainer B Crawford was informed that the second blood specimen had revealed a level above the international threshold of 36 mmol/L and that consequently BLUE BAY was scratched from this race in terms of the provisions of Rules 72.1.23; 4.2.14 and 4.2.18. (Withdrawn at 15h59, 10/1 in the betting). BLUE BAY was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer B Donnelly, acting on behalf of Trainer B Crawford, was advised (Dr E Reynders). b) Jockey G van Niekerk reported that he felt something amiss with MARSHALL FIELD. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) Jockey R Fourie reported that, in his opinion, the performance of TIME FOR LOVE was disappointing.
