THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MELA STRENGTH (M Mjoka) jumped slow, losing one length. b) GRIPEN (G van Niekerk) and GREENLAND (R Fourie) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At the 200m MELA STRENGTH (M Mjoka), which initially rolled out, made contact with the hindquarters of SANSA STARK (K Steyn) and had to be steadied briefly when close to the heels of GREENLAND (R Fourie), which shifted out and had to be straightened b) Jockey A Andrews reported that MO YAY felt uncomfortable in its action. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) Jockey D Ashby reported that BRYDEN BAY did not stride out freely and he eased this gelding out of the race at the 250m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) GREENLAND, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SJ Snaith was advised.
