THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) FUN ZONE (C Zackey) jumped slow, losing one length.
b) PRINCESS IZZY (L Mxothwa) was slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) MISS MARGUERITE was selected for the taking of specimens for TCO2. testing. The first specimen revealed a level of over 35 TCO2. mmol/L. Assistant Trainer E Steyn, acting on behalf of Trainer ELP Steyn, was advised that, in terms of the Procedure for Total Carbon Dioxide (TCO2) analysis on Raceday, a second blood specimen would be collected. Assistant Trainer E Steyn, acting on behalf of Trainer ELP Steyn, was informed that the second blood specimen had revealed a level above the international threshold of 36 mmol/L and that consequently MISS MARGUERITE was scratched from this race in terms of the provisions of Rules 72.1.23; 4.2.14 and 4.2.18. (Withdrawn at 15h27, 20/1 in the betting). MISS MARGUERITE was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer E Steyn, acting on behalf of Trainer ELP Steyn, was advised. b) ROYAL INVITATION (M Winnaar) was continually held up for a clear run in the straight.
c) In the concluding stages, Jockey A Arries was unable to ride WUGUG to the finish when awkwardly placed between SIDDELEY (JP van der Merwe) and SCHOOL POLICY (C Orffer).
d) Jockey A Andrews reported that he felt something amiss with WHO DO YOU LOVE. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
e) Jockey R Fourie was charged with a contravention of Rule 55.4 in that he failed to weigh out at the carded weight on WUGUG, or at the higher weight confirmed in his engagement with the Trainer, resulting in a change of rider. Jockey R Fourie signed an admission of guilt and was fined R2 000.00.
f) ENEMY TERRITORY (IRE), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer B Donnelly, acting on behalf of Trainer B Crawford, was advised. (TJ)
