THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) PIBE DE ORO (S Khumalo) jumped awkwardly outwards leaving the stalls.
b) BUSSTOPINHOUNSLOW (D De Gouveia) and SPY STORY (R Danielson) were slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) As the start was effected, LEAD THE CHARGE (C Zackey) was bumped out by PIBE DE ORO (S Khumalo), which jumped outwards leaving the stalls.
b) Shortly after the start, RINGHO (J Gates) and WATCHMAN (C Habib) came together and brushed.
c) At approximately the 600m, ETHENSBEAUT (*J Botes), which hung in, brushed the inside running rail.
d) Jockey R Danielson reported that SPY STORY made an abnormal respiratory noise in running.
The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt.
e) TIGER STORM was selected for the taking of specimens for TCO2 testing. The first specimen analysed at 11H50 revealed a level of over 35 TCO2 mmol/L. Trainer F P Habib was advised that, in terms of the Procedure for Total Carbon Dioxide (TCO2) analysis on Raceday, a second blood specimen would be collected. Trainer F P Habib was informed that the second blood specimen, analysed at 12H01 had revealed a level above the international threshold of 36 mmol/L and that consequently TIGER STORM was scratched from this race in terms of the provisions of Rules 72.1.23; 4.2.14 and 4.2.18. (Withdrawn at 12H09, 10/1 in the betting).
f) LEAD THE CHARGE (C Zackey), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer A Azzie advised (MduP).
