THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) DONNY'S BOY (L Mxothwa) was reluctant to load and thereafter was nervous in the stalls.
b) DECO VAR (M Yeni) was nervous in the stalls.
c) SAKURAJIMA (S Khumalo) and WALT WHITMAN (R Fourie) were slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) WAR OF HEARTS (C Zackey) proved difficult proceeding to the start and had to be led, riderless, by a Handler. Trainer GD Smith was advised that should this colt behave in a similar manner in future engagements, it may be suspended.
b) At the 400m SAKURAJIMA (S Khumalo) was awkwardly placed on the inside of WILLOWCEDE (S Naidoo), which shifted inwards and had to be steadied and switched out to obtain a clear run. Thereafter, leaving the 400m, SAKURAJIMA (S Khumalo) was further baulked for a clear run and had to be steadied for a number of strides.
c) DONNY'S BOY (L Mxothwa) raced green and made slight contact with UNION ROSE (K Steyn) at the 150m.
d) Jockey M Yeni reported that DECO VAR did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt.
e) SAKURAJIMA, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Mitchley was advised. (LM)
