THE STARTER REPORTED: a) RESURGENCE (S Khumalo) rushed the front gates of the starting stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Approaching the 200m WILLIAM THE FIRST (C Zackey) was steadied and made slight contact with the hindquarters of COASTAL PATH (R Fourie), which was hanging in and shifted inwards. Thereafter, JACKSON MISISSIPPI (C Maujean) shifted out slightly, which resulted in WILLIAM THE FIRST (C Zackey) having to be steadied leaving the 150m. b) In view of the performance of RESURGENCE (S Khumalo), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. c) Jockey M Yeni reported that SWISS WALT changed stride continually in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Trainer Z Oosthuizen was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with this gelding on his return to the stables. d) CLAP OF THUNDER (D Schwarz) returned with a bilateral epistaxis due to an exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and is suspended, for a period of 120 days, from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa in terms of Rule 93.1. (Dr E Reynders) e) JACKSON MISISSIPPI, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SB Kotzen was advised.
