THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) GARDENER'S PRIDE (C Maujean) was stubborn loading.
b) DONNY'S BOY (Y Ramzan) and OLIVER TWIST (*DB Geerthsen) were stubborn loading and thereafter were slow into stride.
c) KING'S SAILOR (D Schwarz) fly-jumped leaving the stalls.
d) HIERSDIEDING (L Mxothwa) was slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) The start of this race was delayed as Jockey Y Ramzan's (DONNY'S BOY) lead bag came adrift while proceeding to the start. Jockey Y Ramzan returned to the weighing room, was re-weighed and DONNY'S BOY was re-saddled before returning to the start.
b) HIERSDIEDING (L Mxothwa) and KING'S SAILOR (D Schwarz) over raced in the early stages.
c) Approaching the 1200m, when negotiating the turn, HIERSDIEDING (L Mxothwa) was carried out slightly by OLIVER TWIST (*DB Geerthsen), which was awkwardly placed, and had to ease and switch his mount outwards off the heels of DONNY'S BOY (Y Ramzan). As a consequence, GARDENER'S PRIDE (C Maujean) had to be steadied for a number of strides off the heels of HIERSDIEDING (L Mxothwa).
d) CRIMSON COMET (S Khumalo) was hanging in from approximately the 400m, which made it difficult for Jockey S Khumalo to fully assist this gelding.
e) WALT WHITMAN, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AC Greeff was advised. (LM)
f) CRIMSON COMET, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Mitchley was advised. (LM)
