THE STARTER REPORTED: a) PORTCULLIS (S Khumalo) jumped slow, losing one length. b) DAWN CLOUD (*N Nastili) and ACT OF POWER (*DB Geerthsen) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) GOLD GUNNER (L Mxothwa) over raced in the early and middle stages. b) Approaching the 150m Jockey R Fourie (LA PEQUENITA) hesitated with his riding when he was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GOLD GUNNER (L Mxothwa), which shifted inwards sharply. c) At the 150m GOLD GUNNER (L Mxothwa) shifted in sharply and was corrected. Thereafter, GOLD GUNNER (L Mxothwa) and POTENT CAPTAIN (C Maujean) raced in close proximity to one another and brushed on two occasions when both horses shifted marginal ground. A Stipendiary Steward called for a race review into this incident, which was followed by him lodging an objection on behalf of the 2nd placed horse, POTENT CAPTAIN (C Maujean) against the winner, GOLD GUNNER (L Mxothwa) on the grounds of interference and intimidation in the closing stages. The Objection Board, after taking into consideration the evidence presented and considering the relative position of the horses on straightening and up until this incident that had formed the grounds of the objection, could not be comfortably satisfied that POTENT CAPTAIN (C Maujean) would have finished ahead of GOLD GUNNER (L Mxothwa) had this incident not occurred and therefore overruled the Objection. d) The saddle on LORD CAPULET (S Naidoo) slipped forward in running, resulting in the lead bag becoming detached approaching the 1000m. On his return to the scale, Jockey S Naidoo (LORD CAPULET) weighed back in at 54.7, 5.3kgs under the weight at which he was declared out. An objection was lodged by the Clerk of Scales in terms of Rule 66.4 which, after hearing all the evidence, was upheld and LORD CAPULET was disqualified in terms of the provisions of Rules 68.2.11 and 69.7. Jockey S Naidoo's equipment was examined by a Stipendiary Steward and was found to be in a satisfactory condition. e) GOLD GUNNER, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
