THE STARTER REPORTED: a) ELECTRIC STORM (D Schwarz), KANIMAMBO (S Khumalo) and STATE OF MIND (M van Rensburg) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) In view of the performance of GIVE US A SMILE (S Veale), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. b) Jockey S Khathi was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that as the rider of ELLIS ISLAND he misused his crop by striking ELLIS ISLAND more than 12 times (16) which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race. Jockey S Khathi signed an admission of guilt and was fined R10 000,00. c) THE INKOSANA, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
