The start of this race was delayed due to the lead horse having to be returned to the vicinity of the start, and due to SACRED LILY (R A Venniker) and LADY IS A CHAMP (M Yeni) being restless in the stalls. These horses were removed from the stalls, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, passed fit to race and reloaded.
THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) HAT'S LADY (J R Syster) lost 3 lengths and thereafter was slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED :
a) Leaving the starting stalls LADY IS A CHAMP (M Yeni) was brushed out by SACRED LILY (R A Venniker) which jumped out.
b) Leaving the 400m RUBY CLAIRE (S Moodley) was brushed out by SACRED LILY (R A Venniker) which commenced to hang out and rolled out. Thereafter, at the 250m, RUBY CLAIRE (S Moodley) was steadied off the heels of SACRED LILY (R A Venniker) which continued to hang out proving difficult to assist.
c) NOVEMBER BOOGIE (S Veale) shifted out away from the crop between the 250m and the 150m and thereafter hung out.
d) Jockey T Godden reported that EXQUISITE DAWN made an abnormal respiratory noise in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
e) In view of the performance of RUBY CLAIRE (S Moodley) (10.30 lengths, 5/2 in the betting), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
f) ELUSIVE BELLE was selected for the taking of specimens for TCO2. testing. The first specimen analysed at 12h55 revealed a level of more than 35 TCO2. mmol/L. In terms of the Procedure for Total Carbon Dioxide (TCO2) analysis on Raceday, a second blood specimen was collected. Trainer Goosen was informed that the second blood specimen, analysed at 13h06 had revealed a level more than the threshold of 37 mmol/L. Consequently ELUSIVE BELLE was scratched from this race in terms of the provisions of Rules 72.1.23; 4.2.14 and 4.2.18. (Withdrawn at 13h15, 9/4 in the betting).
a) LADY IS A CHAMP (M Yeni), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer F Robinson advised (DZ).
