ON ARRIVAL AT THE START JOCKEY G LERENA EXPRESSED CONCERNS REGARDING THE SOUNDNESS OF STORM AHEAD. THIS GELDING WAS EXAMINED BY THE COURSE VETERINARY SURGEON, WHO WAS OF THE OPINION THAT HE WAS FIT TO RACE. NOTWITHSTANDING THE VETERINARY SURGEON'S OPINION, JOCKEY G LERENA WAS STILL NOT COMFORTABLE TO RIDE STORM AHEAD. A REPLACEMENT RIDER WAS SOUGHT AND DISPATCHED TO THE START. THIS CAUSED A SIGNIFICANT DELAY TO THE START OF THIS RACE.
THEREAFTER, DURING THE LOADING PROCESS, SPLASHLANDING (M K KATJEDI) KICKED THE BACK GATES REPEATEDLY, WAS RELEASED FROM THE STALLS, EXAMINED BY THE COURSE VETERINARY SURGEON AND SUBSEQUENTLY SCRATCHED. THIS CAUSED A FURTHER DELAY TO THE START OF THIS RACE.
THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) SPLASHLANDING (M K Katjedi) was unruly in the stalls and proved difficult to load. The starting stall certificate for this gelding has been withdrawn. Stable Employee F Naude, acting on behalf of Trainer C Spies, was advised (GT).
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) In the concluding stages, DAMASCODORO (L Nhlapo) was steadied when awkwardly placed between QUELIMANE (J R Syster) and STORM AHEAD (J Gates), which hung in badly from the 200m. In view of the performance of STORM AHEAD, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
b) DUAL PROPHECY (P Strydom) hung in from the 200m.
c) Jockey R Danielson reported that MANZ KNIGHT made an abnormal respiratory noise in running.
The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this horse.
d) In view of the Starter's report with regard to SPLASHLANDING, this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 for a period of 7 days and until such time as he proves tractable loading and jumping with a companion.
Suspension dates: 4 August 2024 to 10 August 2024. SPLASHLANDING may not be presented for re-passing during this period. Stable Employee F Naude, acting on behalf of Trainer C Spies, was advised.
e) DUAL PROPHECY (P Strydom), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.

c) STORM AHEAD examined post race, nothing obvious detected.
Trainer A Azzie was requested to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of STORM AHEAD on return to stables.
