THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MESCAL (M K Katjedi) refused to jump. The starting stall certificate for this gelding has been withdrawn. Trainer F Bronkhorst to be advised. b) CIRCUS LIGHTS (K A Brewer) was stubborn loading and thereafter slow, losing three lengths. Stable Employee H Chauque, acting on behalf of Trainer G J Maroun, was advised to reschool this gelding prior to his next engagement (GT). c) GUARDIA REGINE (C Maujean) jumped awkwardly leaving the stalls. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) SPRING TRADITION (P Mxoli) was baulked for a clear run from the 300m to the 100m. Jockey P Mxoli appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding the tactics adopted in this race. Jockey P Mxoli explained to the Board that he had elected to find cover for as long as possible as SPRING TRADITION had a short run in, however, in preparation to make his run, he found himself tightened for galloping room between the 300m to the 100m, when awkwardly placed behind SAIL THE SKY (M van Rensburg) and on the inside of GUARDIA REGINE (C Maujean). He further added that when an opening materialised it was in close proximity to the finish line. Jockey P Mxoli's explanation was noted. b) In view of the Starter's report with regard to MESCAL, this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 for a period of 30 days and until such time as he proves tractable loading and jumping with a companion on a Raceday. Suspension dates: 4 August 2024 to 2 September 2024. MESCAL may not be presented for re-passing during this period. Trainer F Bronkhorst to be advised. c) SAIL THE SKY (M van Rensburg), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C I Jonker advised (MduP). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: a) GUARDIA REGINE raced equipped with blinkers (declared 2 August 2024 at 08H38). THE VETERINARY SURGEON HAD NO REPORTS.
