THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) FASHION FLYER (O Noach) was stubborn loading and had to be hooded.
b) WARBIRD (J Solomons) and MASTEROFTHEDESERT (A Andrews) made contact leaving the stalls.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) After leaving the parade ring correctly shod, MANEKI NEKO (A Domeyer) cast its right front shoe on the way to the start. MANEKI NEKO proved difficult and the farrier was unable to replace the shoe. In consultation with Assistant Trainer M Arnold, acting on behalf of Trainer C Bass-Robinson, the left front shoe was removed and MANEKI NEKO raced unshod in front. Jockey A Domeyer initially expressed concern with riding MANEKI NEKO unshod, which would have necessitated a change of rider. However, after he had consulted with the course Veterinary Surgeon, who had passed this gelding suitable to race, Jockey A Domeyer was satisfied to fulfil his obligation. This caused a lengthy delay.
b) FASHION FLYER (O Noach) raced green.
c) Jockey A Domeyer reported that MANEKI NEKO did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
d) Jockey L Mxothwa reported that SEEKING THE LIFE felt uncomfortable in its action and he did not persevere with his riding from the 150m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
e) In view of the report from the Starter regarding FASHION FLYER (O Noach), this gelding's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended for 7 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable to load with a companion. (Suspension dates: 24/08/2024 to 30/08/2024 inclusive). FASHION FLYER may not be presented for re-passing during this period.
f) Jockey G Wright was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (Appendix E) in that he mis-used his crop by striking ACROSS THE BOW forward of the saddle in the latter stages. Jockey G Wright signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1 000.00.
g) ACROSS THE BOW, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Stable Employee C Kensley, acting on behalf of Trainer MH Maingard, was advised. (SL)
