THE STARTER REPORTED: a) NATURAL WONDER (*DB Geerthsen) was nervous in the stalls. b) HOME REEF (L Mxothwa), COME ON YOU SPURS (D Schwarz) and DONNY'S BOY (C Habib) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) NATURAL WONDER (*DB Geerthsen) over raced in the early and middle stages and raced wide without cover around the turn and into the straight. b) On entering the straight, DONNY'S BOY (C Habib) shifted inwards sharply, was straightened and thereafter shifted outwards away from the crop leaving the 250m and raced awkwardly for a number of strides. Thereafter, DONNY'S BOY (C Habib) shifted inwards away from the crop leaving the 150m. When questioned regarding this colt's racing manners, Trainer GD Smith advised the Board that he had dental work performed on DONNY'S BOY prior to this run. Trainer GD Smith undertook to race this horse equipped in blinkers which, in his opinion, will assist this colt in keeping on a straight course. The Board advised Trainer GD Smith that they will monitor this colt's future performances. c) Jockey M van Rensburg reported that he felt something amiss with MAYOR OF MERRIVALE. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) ERIMITAGE (R Fourie) returned with a unilateral epistaxis due to an exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and is suspended for a period of 60 days from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa in terms of Rule 93.1. (Dr M Bawden) e) ERIMITAGE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Mitchley was advised. (LM) f) COME ON YOU SPURS, the fourth-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer JP Nel was advised.
