THE STARTER REPORTED: a) IRONTAIL (L Mxothwa), JACKSON MISISSIPPI (C Maujean) and WAR LAUNCH (M van Rensburg) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) ABSOLU NOIR was selected for the taking of specimens for TCO2. testing. The first specimen revealed a level of over 35 TCO2. mmol/L. Trainer E Kaknis was advised that, in terms of the Procedure for Total Carbon Dioxide (TCO2) analysis on Raceday, a second blood specimen would be collected. Trainer E Kaknis was informed that the second blood specimen had revealed a level above the threshold of 37 mmol/L and that consequently ABSOLU NOIR was scratched from this race in terms of the provisions of Rules 72.1.23; 4.2.14 and 4.2.18. (Withdrawn at 16h29, 20/1 in the betting). ABSOLU NOIR was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer E Kaknis was advised (Dr M Bawden) b) Shortly after the start IRONTAIL (L Mxothwa) and SWISS WALT (D Schwarz) came together and bumped. c) ARTURO (R Fourie) was hanging out from the 250m. d) Jockey L Mxothwa reported that he felt something amiss with IRONTAIL and eased this gelding out of the race at the 250m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. e) ARTURO, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AC Greeff was advised.
