THE STARTER REPORTED: a) LEGAL CHITCHAT (*DB Geerthsen) was nervous in the stalls. b) WALT WHITMAN (R Fourie) and SAN QUINTIN (M van Rensburg) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Leaving the 400m, HEAD GARDENER (M Yeni) was carried outwards by MAGNUM FIRE (E Webber) which, in turn, was carried outwards by KANIMAMBO (S Veale), which shifted out away from the crop for a number of strides and was straightened at the 200m. During this incident MAGNUM FIRE (E Webber) and KANIMAMBO (S Veale) made contact on a number of occasions. An Inquiry will be opened into this incident. b) Leaving the 200m, SAN QUINTIN (M van Rensburg) shifted inwards slightly and carried HEAD GARDENER (M Yeni) inwards and was immediately corrected. c) LEGAL CHITCHAT (*DB Geerthsen) returned with a bilateral epistaxis due to an exercise induced pulmonary haemorrhage and is suspended for a period of 60 days from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa in terms of Rule 93.1. (Dr K Davis) d) Jockey S Khathi was charged with a contravention of Rule 55.4 in that he failed to weigh out at the carded weight on JOSI MO, or at the higher weight confirmed in his engagement with the Trainer. Jockey S Khathi signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1000.00. e) WALT WHITMAN, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AC Greeff was advised.
