The start of this race was delayed as BOM BOM (S Moodley) proved difficult proceeding to the start and had to be led by a handler. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) ROYAL SWAN MASTER (S Veale) lost 3 lengths and thereafter was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) At the 300m BOM BOM (S Moodley) which was hanging in from the 350m, was briefly baulked for a clear run. b) At the 100m ANIMAL IMPACT (C F Dicken) was momentarily inconvenienced on the inside of BOM BOM (S Moodley) which rolled in and was immediately corrected. c) In view of BOM BOM (S Moodley) proving difficult proceeding to the start, Trainer W Whitehead was advised that should this gelding behave in a similar manner in the future, it may be suspended. d) Jockey S Veale signed an admission of guilt for a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, (Appendix E, Guideline M), in that he as the rider of ROYAL SWAN MASTER misused his crop by striking this gelding more than twelve times (14) which was not warranted when considering the circumstances of the race. Accordingly, a penalty of a fine of R4000 was imposed. e) OFFICER IN COMMAND (M Yeni), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
