THE STARTER REPORTED: a) PALPABLE (D Ashby) was restless in the stalls and thereafter jumped slow, losing one length. b) GOLDEN IDEAL (D Schwarz) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At the 600m FLEUR DE VILLE (K Steyn) was brushed outwards by PINK PIGEON (L Mxothwa), which shifted out when close to the heels of MRS SHACKLETON (M Mjoka). b) Between the 250m and 100m TIMELINE (S Veale) raced in restricted galloping room on the inside of LOVE STORY (JP van der Merwe), which was hanging in and rolled in away from MRS SHACKLETON (M Mjoka). Thereafter, Jockey J P van der Merwe was unable to ride LOVE STORY to the finish when close to the heels of MRS SHACKLETON (M Mjoka) in the concluding stages. c) Jockey K Steyn reported that FLEUR DE VILLE made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) Trainer JMT Stewart was charged with a contravention of Rule 8.3.1 in that he failed to have available the registered colours of the owner/s of GOLDEN IDEAL. Trainer JMT Stewart signed an Admission of Guilt and was given a warning. e) Jockey R Khathi was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (Appendix E) in that he mis-used his crop by striking MIDWICKET forward of the saddle at approximately the 50m. Jockey R Khathi signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1 000.00. f) BE MERRY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer C Snaith, acting on behalf of Trainer SJ Snaith, was advised. (TJ) g) PINK PIGEON, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer R Barrett, acting on behalf of Trainer B Crawford, was advised.
