THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) MIDWICKET (R Fourie) was reluctant to load and restless in the stalls.
b) MY ONLY WEAKNESS (G van Niekerk) jumped awkwardly outwards and made contact with TIMELINE (S Veale).
c) WEDDING BELLS (D Ashby) was slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) The Starter reported that the back gate of starting stall number 8, which was damaged in Race 1, could not be used for this race. Horses drawn eight and upwards were loaded one draw upward, relative to their respective draws. This was brought to the attention of the Racing Operator.
b) MIDWICKET (R Fourie) raced green and was hanging out on the turn.
c) MY ONLY WEAKNESS (G van Niekerk) was hanging out in the straight and shifted out continually until the finish. Jockey G van Niekerk appeared before the Board and was advised to take stronger measures to keep his mounts on a straight course in similar circumstances.
d) POCKET DIAL (JP van der Merwe) and LITTLE LEXI (K Matsunyane) were hanging out from the 200m.
e) Jockey T Godden reported that EXPEDITION SOUTH made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
f) Jockey C Zackey reported that TIME IN PARIS made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly.
g) In view of the report from the Starter regarding MIDWICKET (R Fourie), Trainer JMT Stewart will be advised to have this filly re-schooled prior to her next engagement in terms of Rule 61.6.10.
h) Jockey G van Niekerk was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (Appendix E) in that he mis-used his crop by striking MY ONLY WEAKNESS forward of the saddle in the latter stages. Jockey G van Niekerk signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1 000.00.
i) MY ONLY WEAKNESS, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer AN Marcus was advised. (MB)
