ON COMMENCEMENT OF THE LOADING PROCESS, WEARINGOFTHEGREEN (IRE) (G LERENA) SUSTAINED AN INJURY. THIS FILLY WAS EXAMINED BY THE VETERINARY SURGEON AND SUBSEQUENTLY WITHDRAWN. TIME WAS ALLOTTED FOR THE BETTING PUBLIC TO RESTRUCTURE THEIR BETS. THIS CAUSED A DELAY TO THE START OF THIS RACE. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) CHASING SHADOWS (M Yeni), GREENHOUSE (M K Katjedi) and ZALTA STAR (*N Nastili) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) WINTER IN PARIS (C Maujean) raced wide, without cover around the turn and into the straight. b) At approximately the 800m, SUNFIRE (N Klink) took an awkward stride and brushed the running rail when awkwardly placed on the inside of LYCHEE (K A Brewer). c) Jockey C Maujean reported that WINTER IN PARIS made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) Jockey S Khumalo reported that POPLAR PARK took no interest in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. e) STROOPSOET (*T Mayhew), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer R R Sage advised (MS).
