THE START OF THIS RACE WAS DELAYED DUE TO THE DELAY IN THE PREVIOUS RACE. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) QUATERMAIN (*T Mayhew) reared in the stalls. b) UNITED COUNCIL (M K Katjedi) was slow losing two lengths. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Apprentice T Mayhew reported that he felt something amiss with QUATERMAIN in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Trainer R Klaasen was requested to report back to the Stipendiary Board on the condition of QUATERMAIN on return to stables. b) BARBARESCO (P Strydom), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
