THE STARTER REPORTED: a) BENNELONG POINT (C Zackey) was nervous in the stalls and thereafter was slow into stride. b) PASHTUNWALI (M van Rensburg) and SWISS WALT (D Schwarz) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Jockey L Mxothwa reported that he felt something amiss with MAGIC PRINCE and he eased this gelding out of the race approaching the 700m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. Jockey L Mxothwa appeared before the Board and was requested to take the Board through his ride on MAGIC PRINCE and the abrupt manner in which he eased this gelding out of the race at approximately the 600m. He explained that, leaving the 800m, his mount was off the bit and did not respond to his urgings. Thereafter, this gelding had felt unstable and was wobbling and at approximately the 600m, he hung towards and brushed the inside running rail. Jockey L Mxothwa therefore concluded that this gelding could have bled and subsequently pulled him out of the race. His explanation, with the evidence from the patrol film, was noted with approval. b) Jockey C Zackey reported that he felt something amiss with BENNELONG POINT and he eased this gelding out of the race leaving the 400m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. Trainer GD Smith was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with this gelding on his return to the stables. c) MORNING CHESS (C Habib) shifted outwards away from the crop and was corrected at approximately the 300m. d) MORNING CHESS, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer L Gila was advised. (LM) e) TRAVEL MASTER, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer A Mtengwana, acting on behalf of Trainer AC Greeff, was advised.
