THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MILLIONDOLLARGIRL (S Khathi) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) ABSOLU NOIR was selected for the taking of specimens for TCO2. testing. The first specimen revealed a level of over 35 TCO2. mmol/L. Trainer E Kaknis was advised that, in terms of the Procedure for Total Carbon Dioxide (TCO2) analysis on Raceday, a second blood specimen would be collected. Trainer E Kaknis was informed that the second blood specimen had revealed a level above the threshold of 37 mmol/L and that consequently ABSOLU NOIR was scratched from this race in terms of the provisions of Rules 72.1.23; 4.2.14 and 4.2.18. (Withdrawn at 13h43, 6/1 in the betting). ABSOLU NOIR was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer E Kaknis was advised (Dr E Reynders) b) A jockey representative approached the Stipendiary Board, prior to the running of this race, with concerns about the exceptionally strong crosswinds. The Stewards advised him that it was in everyone's best interests to make every attempt to reach the carded conclusion of the race meeting, but it should not be at the expense of any risk to rider safety, horse welfare or the integrity of races. Subsequently, after careful consultation between the Stewards and Riders, there was consensus that the Riders would ride their mounts cautiously and race wide around the turn and provide sufficient distance between horses in an attempt to limit any potential danger. c) In the extreme weather-related circumstances, it was noticeable that Jockeys R Fourie (MORNING CHESS) and C Maujean (RUSSIAN EMPIRE) made every attempt to keep their respective mounts on a straight course throughout the running of this race, and in particular in the straight, despite the exceptionally strong cross winds. d) CRUZADOR, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
