The start of this race was delayed due to the delay in the previous race, and due to the reasons stated in the Starters' report below. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SHINY BOB (S Hlengwa) was restless in the stalls and kicked the back gates. This colt was removed from the stalls, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, passed fit to race and reloaded. Trainer G B Puller was advised to re-school this colt (SL). b) FREDDY SLATER (C Zackey), SEE MY FUTURE (S Moodley), CHASING FREEDOM (T Godden) and KOLA TONIC (M V'Rensburg) lost 1 length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) KOLA TONIC (M V'Rensburg) commenced to over-race in the early stages which resulted in the saddle on this gelding slipping sideways in the running. As a consequence KOLA TONIC (M V'Rensburg) raced wide around the field and compounded in the straight. b) Shortly before the finish Jockey G Lerena (ROLLO THE VIKING) and Jockey M Yeni's (ONE SCOTCH) crops became entangled. c) In view of the performance of FREDDY SLATER (C Zackey) (6.30 lengths, 18/10 in the betting), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. Assistant Trainer N Roscoe acting on behalf of Trainer D Kannemeyer will be asked to report back on the condition of this colt upon return to stables. d) AMIGO (S Veale), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
