THE STARTER REPORTED: a) ABOUND (M Yeni) jumped outwards. b) JAMES FITZJAMES (L Mxothwa) kicked the back gates in the starting stalls and thereafter, jumped slow, losing three lengths. c) 'O CAPTAIN (J Gates), KING'S SAILOR (D Schwarz), BRYDEN BAY (S Khathi), HANGING ROCK (K Minnie) and GOLDEN CORN (*DB Geerthsen) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) CARAMEL FUDGE was selected for the taking of specimens for TCO2. testing. The first specimen revealed a level of over 36 TCO2. mmol/L. Trainer DA McKenzie was advised that, in terms of the Procedure for Total Carbon Dioxide (TCO2) analysis on Raceday, a second blood specimen would be collected. Trainer DA McKenzie was informed that the second blood specimen had revealed a level above the threshold of 38 mmol/L and that consequently CARAMEL FUDGE was scratched from this race in terms of the provisions of Rules 72.1.23; 4.2.14 and 4.2.18. (Withdrawn at 15h58, 20/1 in the betting). CARAMEL FUDGE was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer DA McKenzie was advised. (Dr E Reynders) b) HEART STEALER (R Fourie) recorded a TCO2 concentration of more than 36 mmol/L. Trainer AC Greeff was advised that a second blood specimen would be collected. This specimen was of an acceptable TCO2 level. c) BRYDEN BAY (S Khathi) was bumped outwards by KING'S SAILOR (D Schwarz), which was carried out by 'O CAPTAIN (J Gates), which in turn was carried out by ABOUND (M Yeni), which jumped outwards sharply shortly after the start. Thereafter, KING'S SAILOR (D Schwarz) had to steady off the heels of ABOUND (M Yeni). d) Jockey R Fourie reported that HEART STEALER did not stride out freely in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Trainer AC Greeff was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with this gelding on his return to the stables. e) In view of the report from the Starter regarding JAMES FITZJAMES (L Mxothwa), this colt's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended for 7 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable to jump on terms with a companion. (Suspension dates: 16/10/2024 to 22/10/2024 inclusive). JAMES FITZJAMES may not be presented for re-passing during this period. f) ABOUND, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer K Mitchley was advised.
