THE STARTER REPORTED: a) On arrival at the start, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that the tongue-tie on PETTEIA (K Steyn) had come loose. However, this gelding proved difficult and the tongue-tie could not be re-fitted to the Veterinary Surgeon's satisfaction. Subsequently this gelding was withdrawn by the Stewards, causing a delay. b) MON PETIT CHERIE (R Fourie) jumped slow, losing two lengths. c) MAPHAKA (C Zackey) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) O'TENIKWA (C Orffer) pulled hard in the early and middle stages. b) MAPHAKA (C Zackey) had difficulty securing clear running in the straight and thereafter, Jockey C Zackey was unable to ride to the finish when close to the heels of KING OF SPIN (L Mxothwa) in the concluding stages. c) Approaching the 200m GRAND BAY (M Mjoka) was held up behind O'TENIKWA (C Orffer) and had to be directed inwards and into clear running. d) At the 150m MONUMENTAL (G Wright) was held up for a number of strides when close to the heels of MAPHAKA (C Zackey). e) Jockey D Ashby was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (Appendix E) in that he mis-used his crop by striking SOOTY forward of the saddle at the 100m. Jockey D Ashby signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1 000.00. f) KAIBOY, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Bass-Robinson was advised. Rule 53.5 applied (declared 08h45 on 20241018) b) KELP FOREST - coughing. Rule 53.5 applied (declared 12h11 on 20241016) c) PETTEIA - unable to re-fit tongue tie (declared 16h14 on 20241019)
