THE STARTER REPORTED: a) RUN FOR COVER (M Yeni) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. b) SOUTHERN BLAZE (D De Gouveia) was slow losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start, RUN FOR COVER (M Yeni), which jumped inwards leaving the stalls, had its hindquarters turned outwards when bumped by TWO MILES WEST (J Penny), which jumped outwards leaving the stalls. b) The Board have adjourned to review an incident that occurred at the 1200m. c) THE FUTURIST (K Matsunyane) commenced to give ground to the field and tired rapidly from the 200m. d) In view of the performance of RUN FOR COVER (M Yeni), (distance 5,40 lengths, betting 33/10), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) Jockey P Mxoli reported that he felt something amiss with VIVA SPIRIT in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. f) In view of the Veterinary Surgeon's report concerning VIVA SPIRIT, and in terms of Rule 93.1, this gelding is suspended for 60 days from racing in any race under the jurisdiction of the National Horseracing Authority. Trainer J J van Vuuren was advised. g) SOUTHERN BLAZE (D De Gouveia), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer N Titise, acting on behalf of Trainer S T Pettigrew, was advised (MduP). h) WILLOW EXPRESS (C Habib), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis (AH).
