THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) GOLDEN PAVILION (C Zackey) was nervous in the stalls and jumped awkwardly, losing one length.
b) TO THE HILT (S Khathi) and GUNSMOKE (*DB Geerthsen) were slow into stride.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) ABOUND recorded a TCO2 concentration of more than 36 mmol/L. Trainer K Mitchley was advised that a second blood specimen would be collected. This specimen was of an acceptable TCO2 level.
b) As the start was effected, the lead rope that was attached to the bridle of GOLDEN PAVILION (C Zackey) became entangled. This resulted in this gelding jumping awkwardly and losing one length. The Board, after considering this matter, and in reference to Rule 61.5.10.2, was of the opinion that this gelding did not lose a significant amount of ground, finished in the first four placings and took no further action.
c) TO THE HILT (S Khathi) raced wide without cover around the turn and into the straight. In view of the performance of TO THE HILT (S Khathi) the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
d) In view of the performance of ABOUND (M Yeni) (Betting 11/2; Distance 2.25 lengths), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
Trainer K Mitchley was advised to report back should she find anything amiss with this gelding on her return to the stables.
e) Trainer AC Greeff was charged with a contravention of Rule 57.1.2 in that he failed to ensure that HOLOCENE was presented in the security area at least 60 minutes before the official starting time of the fifth (5th) race. Trainer AC Greeff signed Admission of Guilt and was fined R2 500,00.
f) MY BESTIE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Stable Employee MP Cloete signed on behalf of Trainer GS Kotzen. (LM)
