The start of this race was delayed due to the previous race delay and for the reason listed in the Starters' report below. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) PALERMO (S Veale) reared on one occasion in the stalls, was removed, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, and passed fit to race. During the reloading process this gelding kicked the back gates and was subsequently withdrawn. b) DON'T JUDGE (M Yeni), RED MOUNTAIN (D Daniels), FUTURE SAINT (J Jacobs) and TYRCONNELL (C Habib) lost 1 length. c) OH MY WORD ITS ROY (M Thackeray) jumped with its head up and thereafter was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) At the 250m Jockey M Thackeray (OH MY WORD ITS ROY) accidentally dropped his right side rein which he regained shortly thereafter. b) In view of the performance of RALPH THE RASCAL (K Matsunyane) (8.30 lengths, 25/1 in the betting), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. c) NOCTURNAL FLIGHT (G Lerena), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer V Beets acting on behalf of Trainer P B Muscutt advised (SP). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) Nil. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER : a) Nil. THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED : a) PALERMO : Kicked the back gates when loading at the start. b) RALPH THE RASCAL : Not striding out right front. c) TYRCONNELL : Abnormal respiratory noise.
