THE STARTER REPORTED: a) NUCLEAR FORCE (C Habib) was slow losing three lengths. Trainer E Verdonese was advised to reschool this gelding prior to his next engagement (GT). b) FLAG BEARER (*G Samo-Burthia) was slow losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) DOUGLAS DRAGON (J Penny) hung in from the 300m. b) Leaving the 250m, BANHA BRIDGE (*T Mayhew) raced in restricted galloping room between the inside running rail and NUCLEAR FORCE (C Habib), which showed a tendency to hang inwards. c) In view of the performance of FLAG BEARER (*G Samo-Burthia), (distance 10,00 lengths, betting 3/1), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) In view of the performance of MAMBO COME TESIO (M van Rensburg), (distance 12,50 lengths, betting 28/10), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) The Stewards, in consolation with the National Riding Master, Mr R Moore, determined that Apprentice G Samo-Burthia's (FLAG BEARER) ride in this race did not meet the criteria for a qualifying ride. He was advised that this decision was based on the evidence from Patrol film that, after FLAG BEARER had jumped awkwardly and lost ground at the start, he had not made a sufficient effort to make up the deficit and place the gelding in a position where it could be competitive. f) DOUGLAS DRAGON (J Penny), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M Khan advised (MS). g) FLAG BEARER (*G Samo-Burthia), unplaced, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer F Bronkhorst advised (AH).
