THE STARTER REPORTED: a) PANNING GOLD (P Mxoli) jumped inwards leaving the stalls. b) SAY IT WITH ROSES (D De Gouveia) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) As the start was effected, PROFESSOR SNAPE (R Danielson) was bumped when awkwardly placed between PANNING GOLD (P Mxoli) and HAWKBILL (C Zackey), which jumped outwards leaving the stalls. b) After a fair start, HAWKBILL (C Zackey) commenced to give ground to the field from the 1200m, for no apparent reason. Entering the home straight, HAWKBILL (C Zackey) was directed outwards and raced in isolation parallel to the outside running rail. In response to Jockey Zackey's constant encouragement, this gelding made up considerable ground on the field and finished his race off strongly. c) Apprentice T Mayhew was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.3 in that he failed to ride CELTIC RUSH out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards, prejudicing his chance of obtaining fifth (5th) place. Apprentice T Mayhew signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R3000 was imposed. d) Jockey G Lerena reported that STREWN SKY changed stride continually in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) Jockey D De Gouveia reported that SAY IT WITH ROSES took no interest in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. f) Jockey M K Katjedi reported that SACAMBAYA made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. g) HAWKBILL (C Zackey), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer M N Houdalakis advised (MS). When questioned regarding the improved performance of this gelding, Trainer M N Houdalakis could offer the Board no suitable explanation. His attention was drawn to the Rules pertaining to In and Out running. h) BIRTHRIGHT (C Habib), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer A G Laird advised (MduP). JOCKEY CHANGES: a) CELTIC RUSH: Apprentice T Mayhew weighed out at 54,4kg, only claiming 0,5kg of his 2,5kg apprentice allowance as declared.
