THE STARTER REPORTED: a) SUGAR BLAST (C Maujean) was stubborn loading. Trainer A P Peter was advised to reschool this gelding prior to his next engagement (GT). THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) At approximately the 600m, IMPERIAL MASTER (D De Gouveia) was carried out by SUGAR BLAST (C Maujean), which was directed outwards away from the heels of SCARLETT PIMPERNEL (R A Venniker). b) Shortly before the finish, IMPERIAL MASTER (D De Gouveia) was steadied in anticipation of being awkwardly placed on the heels of TWO MILES WEST (J Penny), which hung out from the 350m. c) In view of the performance of SUGAR BLAST (C Maujean), which proved difficult to settle in the early stages, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) In view of the performance of ROYAL EDITION (J Gates), (distance 11,75 lengths, betting 8/1), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) Jockey R A Venniker reported that SCARLETT PIMPERNEL changed stride continually in the concluding stages. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. f) INDIAN OCEAN (P Strydom), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Stable Employee M Pandaram, acting on behalf of Trainer L Karriem, was advised (MduP). g) TWO MILES WEST (J Penny), placed second, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
