THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) DALMENY FACTOR (D Schwarz), which was stubborn loading, became fractious and sat down in the stalls. As a consequence, MAJOR MASTER (JP van der Merwe) reacted and broke through the starting stalls, cantered three hundred metres, was returned to the stalls, examined by the course Veterinary Surgeon, passed suitable to race and reloaded. During this incident, TOUCHDOWN (G Lerena) became restless in the stalls, was taken out, examined by the course Veterinary Surgeon, passed suitable to race and reloaded. This caused a delay to the start of this race.
b) AZZURRI (G Wright) kicked the back gates in the starting stalls.
c) ALL ABOUT RONNIE (*I Taka) and REGULATION (G van Niekerk) jumped slow, losing one length.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) LA PULGA was selected for the taking of specimens for TCO2. testing. The first specimen revealed a level of over 36 TCO2. mmol/L. Trainer C Bass-Robinson was advised that, in terms of the Procedure for Total Carbon Dioxide (TCO2) analysis on Raceday, a second blood specimen would be collected. Trainer C Bass-Robinson was informed that the second blood specimen had revealed a level above the threshold of 38 mmol/L and that consequently LA PULGA was scratched from this race in terms of the provisions of Rules 72.1.23; 4.2.14 and 4.2.18. (Withdrawn at 13h49, 25/2 in the betting). LA PULGA was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer C Bass-Robinson was advised (Dr E Reynders)
b) At the 300m REGULATION (G van Niekerk) was held up number of strides when unable to secure clear running between MENTE ET MANU (R Fourie) and SHAVOUT (O Noach).
c) Jockey G Wright reported that he felt something amiss with AZZURRI and did not persevere with his riding from the 150m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
d) In view of the report from the Starter regarding DALMENY FACTOR (D Schwarz), this colt's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and he is suspended for 7 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as he proves to be tractable to load with a companion. (Suspension dates: 27/11/2024 to 03/12/2024 inclusive). DALMENY FACTOR may not be presented for re-passing during this period.
e) GENTLEMAN JOE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer WA Nel was advised. (WM)
f) REGULATION, unplaced, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SJ Snaith was advised. (WM)
