THE STARTER REPORTED: a) QUELIMANE (S Khathi) jumped slow, losing two lengths. b) HOME REEF (R Fourie) jumped inwards. c) MADEIRA CLIFFS (S Naidoo) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Shortly after the start CHEAP THRILLS (K Steyn) was bumped inwards by HOME REEF (R Fourie), which jumped inwards. b) FEARLESS BADGER (M van Rensburg) over raced early and middle stages. c) In view of the performance of HE'S A GAUL (E Webber), which was hanging in from the 250m and was corrected at the 100m, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. d) HOME REEF (R Fourie) was hanging in from the 250m. e) Trainer JP Nel was questioned regarding the improved performance of CHEAP THRILLS. Trainer JP Nel explained to the Board that this filly's previous start was the second run for his yard and that particular run had assisted in bringing the filly on for this race. He had also decided to race her over further and tied her tongue down. In his opinion, these factors had accounted for her improved performance. Trainer JP Nel's explanation was noted. f) Due to a power surge which resulted in a fault at the scale, all Riders in this race were weighed in manually. g) HOME REEF, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SB Kotzen was advised. (LM) h) CHEAP THRILLS, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer JP Nel was advised.
