THE STARTER REPORTED: a) Fair start. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) INDUSTRIALSTRENGTH (C Zackey) was unable to secure clear running in the straight and was directed inwards approaching the 250m. b) TOUCHDOWN (S Veale) was held up for a clear run between the 100m and the finish. c) In the concluding stages Jockey A Domeyer was unable to ride AIR RAID to the finish when awkwardly placed on the outside of KEBONALESEDI (G Wright), which was carried outwards marginally by ZEITZ (C Orffer). d) Jockey R Fourie reported that MENTE ET MANU made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) In view of the performance of AIR RAID (A Domeyer), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. f) Jockey JP van der Merwe was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (Guideline 3; Appendix E) in that he mis-used his crop by striking RULE OF THUMB forward in the latter stages. Jockey JP van der Merwe signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1 000.00. g) RULE OF THUMB, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer SJ Snaith was advised. (TL) h) HOODIA, the second-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer WA Nel was advised.
