THE STARTER REPORTED: a) THUNEE PLAYA (KA Brewer) jumped awkwardly inwards leaving the stalls, losing two lengths and thereafter was slow into stride. b) RED MAPLE (S Moodley) jumped slow, losing one length. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Approaching the 250m SECOND BASE (K Matsunyane) had to steady momentarily when awkwardly placed between ARUMUGAM (J Penny) and ROYAL EDITION (J Gates), which shifted out away from the crop. Thereafter, approaching the 150m ARUMUGAM (J Penny) had to check off the heels of ROYAL EDITION (J Gates), which continued to shift out away from the crop. Jockey J Gates was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7 in that as the rider of ROYAL EDITION he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to ARUMUGAM when he shifted out at the 150m. Jockey J Gates signed an Admission of Guilt and is suspended from riding in races for a period of 7 days. (Dates to be advised) b) In view of the performance of THUNEE PLAYA (KA Brewer) (Betting 2/1; Distance 4.70 lengths), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this colt. c) RED MAPLE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
