THE STARTER REPORTED: a) CITY LIGHTS (C Maujean) jumped slow, losing one length. b) VILLA SEMAYA (D Schwarz) and SPIRIT IN THE WIND (N Klink) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) SPIRIT IN THE WIND (N Klink) over raced in the early stages. b) VILLA SEMAYA (D Schwarz) gave ground to the field from the 200m. In view of this performance, the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. c) Jockey P Strydom reported that GREAT NOTION made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) Jockey P Strydom was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (Guideline 3; Appendix E) in that he mis- used his crop by striking GREAT NOTION forward of the saddle in the concluding stages. Jockey P Strydom signed an admission of guilt and was fined R1 000.00. e) TODOQUE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer PF Matchett was advised.
