The start of this race was delayed due to the reasons stated in the Starters' report below. Subsequently, MEXICAN PETE (K Matsunyane) slipped its bridle which had to be refitted, and NAVAJO NATION (C Habib) lifted its left front shoe at the start. This gelding was attended to by the course farrier and then examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race. This led to a significant further delay to the start of this race. THE STARTER REPORTED: a) NATYAM (C Little) was stubborn to load. b) PALERMO (S Hlengwa) refused to load. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED : a) MEXICAN PETE (K Matsunyane) was baulked for a clear run from the 400m to the 200m. Thereafter this gelding commenced to hang in. b) FORMAGEAR (C Zackey) hung in throughout. Thereafter Jockey C Zackey reported that FORMAGEAR did not stride out freely in the running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. c) In view of the performance of STRATHCLYDE (M Thackeray) (11.40 lengths, 50/1 in the betting), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine. d) In view of the Starter's report with regard to PALERMO (S Hlengwa), this gelding's starting stall certificate is withdrawn and it is suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 for a period of 7 days and until such time as it proves tractable with a companion. Suspension dates: 27.12.2024 to the 02.01.2025. PALERMO may not be presented for re-passing during this period. Trainer M N Prinsloo was advised (SN.) e) IMILENZEYOKUDUDUMA (S Veale), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer G van Zyl (Jnr) advised (SP). f) FORMAGEAR (C Zackey), unplaced, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer P B Muscutt advised (DZ). JOCKEY / EQUIPMENT CHANGES : a) Nil.
