THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) CORAL CREEK (R Fourie) was nervous in the stalls.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:
a) HEAD GARDENER (C Zackey) and MILLENIUM DANCER (C Habib) made contact shortly after the start.
b) FLASH LIGHTNING (DB Geerthsen) and CORAL CREEK (R Fourie) over raced in the early and middle stages.
c) HEAD GARDENER (C Zackey) raced wide around the first bend and into the back straight, raced detached from the field from approximately the 1400m to the 800m, after which it began to gain ground on the field.
d) Jockey C Maujean reported that he felt something amiss with HOME REEF and did not persevere with his riding from the 400m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
Trainer SB Kotzen was advised to report back should she find anything amiss with this gelding on his return to the stables.
e) REACH FORTHE STARS (S Naidoo) shifted both ways away from the crop from the 300m.
f) GALAXY MOMENT (Y Ramzan) had to ease momentarily between the inside running rail and HOME REEF (C Maujean), which had tired quickly and come to the end of its run and was switched out to obtain clear running at approximately the 300m.
g) FLASH LIGHTNING (DB Geerthsen) was hanging in from the 250m.
h) MILLENNIUM DANCER (C Habib) had to be switched out away from the heels of MR MOLONY (M van Rensburg) to obtain clear running at approximately the 200m.
i) CORAL CREEK tired quickly in the latter stages and Jockey R Fourie did not persevere with his riding from the 100m. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding.
j) HEAD GARDENER, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer A Smith, acting on behalf of Trainer GD Smith, was advised. (LM)
