THE STARTER REPORTED: a) During the loading process FRANCINE (G Lerena), who reacted to BETULA (P Mxoli) being restless, broke through front gates, was returned to the start, examined by the course Veterinary Surgeon, passed suitable to race and reloaded, causing a delay. b) BETULA (P Mxoli) was stubborn loading, causing a further delay and thereafter was slow into stride. c) BOSUM BUDDY (Wes Marwing) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) FASTNET FILLY (IRE) (K Matsunyane) was baulked for a clear run from the 400m to the 200m and was switched out to continue its run. Thereafter, this filly was hanging in in the concluding stages. b) Shortly before the finish line SPIRITED GIRL (*T Mayhew), which had come to the end of its run, was steadied momentarily when awkwardly placed on the inside of HAPPY MO (C Maujean), which was hanging in from the 300m. c) Jockey C Maujean reported that HAPPY MO made an abnormal respiratory noise in running. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. d) In view of the performance of BETULA (P Mxoli) (Betting 16/1; Distance 8 lengths), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this filly. e) In view of the report from the Starter regarding BETULA (P Mxoli), this filly's starting stall certificate has been withdrawn and she is suspended for 7 days in terms of Rule 61.6.10 and until such time as she proves to be tractable to load with a companion. (Suspension dates: 03/01/2025 to 09/01/2025 inclusive). BETULA may not be presented for re-passing during this period. f) FRANCINE, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis.
