THE STARTER REPORTED: a) GLOBETONIC (S Naidoo) was stubborn loading. b) HOLOCENE (R Fourie) and CLAP OF THUNDER (M van Rensburg) were slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) After leaving the parade ring correctly shod, SON OF ERUPT (Y Ramzan) cast its left front shoe on the way to the start. The course Farrier was unable to replace this shoe and in consultation with Assistant Trainer DG Smith, the right front shoe was removed and this gelding raced unshod in front. This caused a delay. b) Jockey S Khathi (POTENT CAPTAIN) dropped his right-side rein at the 100m, which he regained after the finish line. c) In view of the performance of MR BELVEDERE (D Schwarz) (Betting 91/100; Distance 5.85 lengths), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. Trainer JP Nel was advised to report back should he find anything amiss with this gelding on his return to the stables. d) In view of the performance of CLAP OF THUNDER (M van Rensburg), the Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine this gelding. e) GLOBE TONIC, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer DG Smith, acting on behalf of Trainer GD Smith, was advised.
