THE STARTER REPORTED: a) MELECH (M Yeni) was slow into stride. THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED: a) Leaving the 200m, ZUZAN (J Penny) was steadied momentarily when awkwardly placed between MAIN DEFENDER (G Lerena) and MELECH (M Yeni), which rolled out. The board, after reviewing this incident, was satisfied that MELECH (M Yeni) was sufficiently clear of ZUZAN (J Penny). b) At the 50m, MAIN DEFENDER (G Lerena) was brushed out by MELECH (M Yeni), which shifted out marginally away from the crop. Jockey G Lerena lodged an objection on behalf of the second-placed horse, MAIN DEFENDER, against the winner, MELECH (M Yeni), on the grounds of interference and intimidation in the concluding stages. The Board after giving consideration to the evidence, could not be comfortably satisfied that this incident had affected the result of the race and therefore overruled the objection and allowed the Judge's result to stand. Jockey G Lerena's deposit was refunded. c) Jockey M Yeni was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline C on the use of the crop) in that he struck MELECH more than three times on consecutive strides in the concluding stages. Jockey M Yeni signed an Admission of Guilt and a fine of R1000 was imposed. d) MELECH (M Yeni), the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Assistant Trainer C Botha, acting on behalf of Trainer R R Magner, was advised (MS). JOCKEY CHANGES: None. RACE CARD CHANGES / OTHER: None. THE VETERINARY SURGEON HAD NO REPORTS.
